Interim Chair of the Human Tissue Authority announced

Issue date:
10 January 2019

We can confirm that our Chair, Nicola Blackwood, has been appointed to the position of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health (Lords) today (Thursday 10 January). Following this appointment, Nicola has resigned her position at the HTA with immediate effect.

We will begin the search for a new permanent Chair in due course, and in the interim, Authority Member William (Bill) Horne has been appointed by the Minister.

Allan Marriot-Smith, HTA Chief Executive Officer, said:

Though we are sad to see her go, we wish Nicola all the best with her new role as Health Minister, which is of course not unfamiliar ground for her. We also congratulate her on her appointment to the House of Lords. Nicola has had a significant impact since she joined us, helping to set us on the way to achieve our vision over the next three years.

Bill Horne, Interim HTA Chair, said:

I know that I speak for all my fellow members of the Authority, when I say how sorry we are to see Nicola leave us. In her short time with us, she made a major contribution, not least in our planning for the future. We wish her well in her new role and congratulate her on her appointment to the House of Lords. We will continue on the path that she has helped set out while we await appointment of her permanent successor.
