Congratulation to HTA Member Penney Lewis following the Secretary of State for Justice's announcement of her appointment as Law Commissioner for Criminal Law.

Professor Penney Lewis said:
I hope to use the breadth of my expertise and experience to provide solutions that help to modernise and simplify the criminal law and ensure it works for everyone.
I am particularly excited to begin with the interlinked projects to improve the protection offered by the law to the growing number of victims of hate crime, offensive and abusive communications and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
The Law Commission was created by the Law Commissions Act 1965 with the role of keeping under review the law of England and Wales with a view to its systematic development and reform. The Law Commission promotes the reform of the law to make it clearer, more modern and more accessible.
The Commission’s projects bring real benefits to the public, businesses or other organisations affected by old, complex and out-of-date law.
We wish Penney the best of luck with her new role, and look forward to continuing to work with her as an HTA Member.
