HTA holds three sucessful workshops for the post mortem sector

The HTA held three events for the post mortem sector during March.  Over 150 delegates from 70 establishments attended.  They included pathologists, APTs, bereavement midwives, police officers and biomedical scientists.

Human T-lymphotropic virus testing

In 2012 the HTA successfully negotiated with the EU Commission an amendment to the wording of the testing requirements for human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV).

Coding and import of tissues and cells for human application

Coding and Import Directives for Tissues and Cells are being put into place in order to implement a single European coding system. This will verify equivalent standards of quality and safety for imported tissues and cells.

Respond to Government consultation on releasing a dead body from hospital

On 13 January 2015, the Department of Health opened a consultation to seek views on the ‘release of a dead body from hospital’ good practice form. The Department of Health has developed this form to help hospitals have a more consistent, quality-controlled, and timely process to release bodies.

Human Tissue Authority announces fees for 2015/16

The Human Tissue Authority (HTA) has set fees for 2015/16 at a similar level to those in 2014/15. Overall, since 2010, there has been a reduction in HTA fees of 36%.
