Stats and facts

IA reaccreditation

The process of IA reaccreditation will begin in mid-December. All reports submitted between 1 December 2013 and 30 November 2014 will be taken into consideration.

Reaccreditation assessments and refresher training (if necessary) will take place in the New Year in order for accreditation notices to be sent out in February 2015. All reaccreditation notices and information will be sent electronically.

Reporting on recipient interviews

Recently we have received a number of IA reports which have not included the discussions with the recipients in the duress, coercion and reward sections. It is important for these sections to cover the donor and recipient discussions so the HTA has sufficient information to exercise an independent judgement in its decision making.

There is more information on recipient interviews in our Guidance to Transplant Teams and Independent Assessors on page 31 paragraph 134. As always, please feel free to contact the Living Donation Assessment Team (LDAT) at transplants@hta.gov.uk if you have any questions.

Emergency living liver donations

We encourage units to notify us of any potential emergency living liver donations that could occur over the Christmas and New Year period as soon as you are aware.

Where emergency cases occur when the HTA office is closed (25 and 26 December and 1 January) please contact the duty office at NHSBT on 0117 975 75 75. The duty officer will then contact a representative at the HTA, who will be able to assess and provide a decision on the case.
