Annual Reviews and Reports

The HTA publishes an Annual Review and Report every year as a record of what has been achieved during the course of the year. Since 2007 this has been separated into two publications.

Annual Review 2010/11: Exercising Efficiency

Our Annual Review 2010/11 was published in July.

The is the HTA’s sixth Annual Review. The last year has been busier than ever and there have been major milestones and achievements along the way. We hope this Review and the case studies included give you an overview of our efficiency, effectiveness and the value for money we provide to ensure public and professional confidence.

Annual Report and Accounts 2010/11

The HTA published its fifth Annual Report and Accounts on 30 June 2011. This Annual Report covers the HTA's work from 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011.

Annual Review 2009/10: Making a Difference

Our Annual Review 2009/10 was published in June.

Since we began regulating in 2006, we have been well on the way to achieving our aim of becoming a high performing and forward-looking regulator. We have faced new challenges over the last year. These include the impact of the economic downturn, increased awareness of patient safety issues and rapidly advancing medicine and science. We have continued to put emphasis on securing compliance through the provision of advice and guidance rather than enforcement. This Annual Review paints a picture of our efficiency and effectiveness, and how we make a difference as a regulator.

The Annual Review covers the HTA's work from 1 April 2009 to 31 March 2010.

Annual Review 2008/09: Demonstrating Value

Our Annual Review 2008/09 was published in July.

This was a challenging year for us, particularly because of the substantial growth in our remit under the European Union Tissue and Cells Directives. Our resources were stretched to their limits, but we  continued to streamline our systems and processes so that we could operate as efficiently, effectively and economically as possible.

The Annual Review covers the HTA's work from 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2009.

Annual Report and Accounts 2008/09

The HTA published its third Annual Report and Accounts on 23 June 2009. During 2008/09, the HTA was reviewed by the strategic support team of the Better Regulation Executive from the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. The review team found that stakeholders valued the HTA's openness and desire to engage them to develop the regulatory framework; and they found that the HTA's risk-based approach had minimised the regulatory burden.

Annual Review 2007/08: Building confidence

The HTA published its Annual Review 2007/08 on 30 July 2008. This was a busy year for the HTA in which we approved almost 1,000 living-donor transplants and licensed nearly 750 establishments.

In the Review, professionals and members of the public share their experiences of working with the HTA. This demonstrates not only the diverse range of work that we are responsible for, but also the positive effect of our regulatory activity.

Annual Report and Accounts 2006/07: Delivering better regulation

The HTA published its second Annual Report and Accounts, 'Delivering better regulation', on 19 July 2007. In this year, the HTA created an entirely new regulatory system for licensing more than 500 establishments across five diverse sectors, and for approving donations of organs and bone marrow from living people.

In the Annual Report, stakeholders from each regulated sector describe their experiences of working with the HTA. These interviews demonstrate how the five key principles of better regulation have shaped our approach.

Annual Report and Accounts 2005/06: The birth of a regulator

The HTA published its first Annual Report and Accounts on 20 July 2006. The report, entitled ‘The birth of a regulator’, focused on the establishment of the HTA as the regulator under the Human Tissue Act and as one of the Competent Authorities in the UK under the EU Tissue and Cells Directive.

This first Annual Report covers the HTA's work from 1 April 2005 to 31 March 2006.
