HTA responds to the Welsh Government’s consultation on an opt-out system for organ donation

On 18 June, the Welsh Government published a consultation on their draft legislation for an opt-out system for deceased organ donation.

Issue date: 14 September 2012

The proposed system will apply to adults who both live and die in Wales, and there are plans to introduce a new register for Wales which will allow residents to state whether they do, or do not, wish to be an organ donor after they die.

The HTA responded to this consultation which closed on 10 September. In the consultation the HTA proposes three areas that the organisation believes need further consideration and development; communicating any proposed changes to the current system; the cross-border issues that will arise from the new system; and the on-going review of the proposals. The HTA believes that addressing these three key areas will be vital to the effective implementation and operation of the proposed system.

The response document can be found on the HTA consultation page.
