Arms Length Body review
HTA Chair responds to ALB review

In response to the announcement of the report of the Arm’s Length Body review, Diana Warwick, Chair of the HTA, said: “We are pleased that the HTA’s work has been recognised in the report, and that the functions will continue. They will eventually transfer to other organisations. We are committed to carrying out our functions as usual, being efficient and effective, and ensuring public and professional confidence in the regulation of human tissue. We will work closely with Department of Health to advise on how the proposals can be implemented.”

Notes to editors
- The HTA is a watchdog that protects public confidence by licensing organisations that store and use human tissue for purposes such as research, patient treatment, post-mortem examination, teaching, and public exhibitions. It also gives approval for organ and bone marrow donations from living people.
- The HTA works under two laws: the Human Tissue Act 2004 (HT Act) and the Human Tissue (Quality and Safety for Human Application) Regulations 2007 (Q&S Regulations). The HT Act applies to England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
