Anatomy

Anatomical examination is used to teach healthcare professionals about the structure of the human body and how it works. Human bodies and parts of bodies are used to train both students and surgeons. Organisations which carry out these activities are licensed by the HTA.

People must decide in life if they want to donate their body to medical science after their death.  If you would like to donate your body please read our information about how to donate your body to medical science.

The HTA is not responsible for promoting body donation, but medical schools have been encouraged to do so, and we provide them with support and information. The HTA also provides further guidance on medical schools that accept body donations on our body donation FAQs page.

Please use the links on the left of this page to access information for the anatomy sector.
