Independent Assessors

The HTA trains and accredits Independent Assessors (IAs) to assess certain types of living organ transplantation in the UK.

These types of transplantation include paired, pooled and non-directed altruistic donations. The IA acts both as a representative of the HTA and as the advocate of the donor.

Online submission system for IA reports

IAs can submit their reports using our online submission system. This is a secure system which is data protected.

If the online system is unavailable, please refer to the contingency plan in the above guidance and use the contingency report form.

E-learning for Independent Assessors

Due to technical difficulties the e-learning course for IAs is unavailable to use at the present time. If you have any questions about this then please contact transplants@hta.gov.uk.

Revised guidance

We are pleased to announce the launch of our revised Guidance for transplant teams and Independent Assessors which was published on 19 August 2009, this is available to download on the left. The 2007 guidance has been updated to reflect the changes in the revised code of practice on the Donation of solid organs for transplantation which will be published on 15 September 2009.

The guidance has been expanded to incorporate further advice on areas which generate the most enquiries. There is more comprehensive information on the requirements for documentary evidence of relationships, and on the person specification for the role of IAs. It also has a thoroughly revised and extended Media policy.

We hope the revised structure will also help make the Guidance more user friendly.
